About
NuQ-Leus
Charles Carrington and NuQ-Leus (pronounced nucleus) have been together since
2000. Charles formed his first group NuQ-Leus in 1982. This group disbanded in
1985, after the sudden passing of trumpeter Milton Ward. By the end of 1985,
numerous personnel changes had been made.
The present group, together since the beginning of 2006, is co-led and produced
by Charles Carrington and Lionel Hampton alumni, Drummer Wally Gator Watson. The
group has performed extensively throughout the New York Metropolitan area. All
members are educators/clinicians. Each member is a gifted composer.
NuQ-Leus has a unique style of straight ahead contemporary jazz; always
performing with spiritual energy and power. The group plays several original
compositions as well as standards, gospel-jazz, smooth jazz and contemporary
covers with swing, Latin, Caribbean and African rhythms.
NuQ-Leus is comprised of six key members and occasionally features a guest
vocalist. The instrumentation includes: Trumpet, Alto Saxophone, Keyboards,
Bass, Drums and Percussion. Each performer is renowned for their individual
professionalism and musical integrity. They all have a rich history of
performances and musical associations.
